There का हिंदी में मतलब होता है "वहां" ।
There का प्रयोग [ Use of There ]
1. जब कभी भी हिंदी वाक्य में "वहां" शब्द का प्रयोग हो तो इस शब्द के लिए अंग्रेजी में There का प्रयोग करते हैं। ऐसे Sentence को हिंदी से अंग्रेजी में बनाते समय There ka Prayog होगा ।
वहां बाग़ में एक आदमी है।
There is a man in the garden.
वहॉँ मेज पर मेरी किताब है।
There is my book on the table.
वहाँ दो शेर थे।
There were two lions.
वहाँ मेरा भाई था।
There was my brother.
वहां कोई न था।
There was none.
2. किसी व्यक्ति, वस्तु या स्थान का परिचय करने के लिए There का प्रयोग किया जाता है।
1. उस स्थान पर बहुत शोरगुल है।
There is a lot of noise at that place.
2. आपके के कमरे में बहुत कम जगह है
There is very little space in your room
3. There का प्रयोग Present Tense , Past Tense तथा Future Tense तीनो प्रकार के सेन्टेन्सेस में किया जा सकता है।
1. मेज पर मेरी कार की चाबी है।
There is my Car's key on the table.
2. रस्ते में एक आम का पेड़ था।
There was a mango tree on the way.
3. आज बाजार में बहुत शांति रहेगी।
There will be a lot of peace in the market today.
4. There का प्रयोग Negative Sentences तथा Interrogative Sentences में भी किया जा सकता है।
Negative Sentences
1. मैदान में बच्चे नहीं हैं।
There are no children in the field.
2. रास्ते में पेड़ नहीं है।
There is no tree on the way.
3. टंकी में पानी नहीं है।
There is no water in the tank.
Interrogative Sentences
1. क्या वहाँ एक दर्जन केले हैं ?
Are there a dozen bananas?
2. क्या यहाँ आज शोरगुल होगा ?
Will there be noise today
3. क्या मैदान में बच्चे हैं ?
Are there children in the field?
4. वहाँ 2 विद्यार्थी क्यों है ?
Why are there two students there?
5. तुम्हारे घर के पीछे पेड़ कब था ?
When was there a tree behind your house?
5. There का प्रयोग 'Has/Have/Had' वाले वाक्यो में भी किया जा सकता है।
एक घंटे में 60 minute होते हैं।
An hour has 60 minutes. / There are 60 minutes in an hour.
मेरी दो बहने हैं।
I have two sisters. / There are two sisters with me .
राम के पास एक कार थी।
Ram had a car. / There was one car with Ram .
6. There वाले वाक्यों में आवश्यकतानुसार सहायक क्रिया (Helping Verb) तथा Modals का भी प्रयोग किया जा सकता है।
कक्षा में थोड़ा अनुशाशन होना चाहिए
There should be some discipline in the class
उसकी बात में कोई संदेह नहीं हो सकता
There can be no doubt in that
राम आज स्कूल नहीं गया , उसका कोई कारन हो सकता है।
Ram did not go to school today, There may be some reason.
जरूर कुछ न कुछ गलत फेहमी हुई होगी ।
There must be some misunderstanding
8. English में जब हम कुछ वाक्यों की Hindi से अंग्रेजी बनाते हैं तो वे बहुत ही अटपटे से बनते है। जैसे - आइये नीचे दिए गए एक Sentence को देखते हैं-
एक राजा था।
इस Sentence अगर हमें Hindi से English में Translate करूँ तो यह निम्नलिखित 2 प्रकार से कुछ इस तरह बनेगा -
One was king या
A king was
लेकिन यह दोनों ही लेकिन यह दोनों ही Sentence सही नहीं हैं इसलिए इस प्रकार के वाक्यों को Hindi से English में अनुवाद करते समय There का प्रयोग किया जाता है। अतः उपर्युक्त वाक्य को निम्नलिखित तरीके से बनाएं गे।

9. There का प्रयोग Dummy Subject (आभासी /दिखावटी कर्त्ता) के रूप में होता है।
मेरे कमरे में एक अलमारी है।
There is a cupboard in my room.
ट्रैन में 250 लोग थे।
There were 250 people in the train.
मेरी कक्षा में केवल 5 विद्यार्थी होंगे
There will be only 5 students in my class
शॉपिंग मॉल में आज कोई नहीं होगा।
There will be no one in the shopping mall today.
ताजमहल आगरा में है।
There is Taj Mahal in Agra.
लालकिला दिल्ली में है।
There is Red Fort in Delhi.
बस स्टैंड पर कोई नहीं था।
There was no one at the bus stand.
प्लेटफॉर्म पर 100 यात्री मौजूद थे।
There were 100 passengers present on the platform.
10. जहाँ हिंदी वाक्य में Subject (कर्ता) या फिर Object (कर्म) छुपा हुआ होता है वहां There का प्रयोग होता है।
जैसे -
एक राजा था। - There was a king.
यहाँ इस वाक्य में Subject (कर्ता) की जगह 'एक राजा ' लिखा हुआ है जबकि अंग्रेजी में Translate करते समय King को Object के स्थान पर लिखते हैं। इस लिए इस तरह के वाक्य को There से प्रारम्भ करेंगे।
